Porn Filter Solutions: Public Enemy No. 1

Porn remains one of the biggest draws of the Internet, and one of the biggest threats to business environments. Pornographic sites, along with other vice sites like gambling, can serve as an opening for other network threats, from spyware and viruses to scams. Even as a threat alone, inappropriate content is a potential for harassment lawsuits and lost productivity. iPrism provides a powerhouse porn filter by using a context-aware, 100% human-reviewed database of individual URLs, for a flexible, accurate porn filter solution.

Porn filters block access to inappropriate content by identifying the content of a site before it can load in the web browser. There are two common ways to do this. One porn filter method is to use blacklists of user-defined IP addresses to block dangerous sites. Other porn filters use keyword-scanning to try to catch recognizable phrases, which is less effective because many porn sites don’t have much text. Other porn filters may integrate image recognition software or protocol-blocking to stop media like graphics and video.

which can appear on a porn site, but also on a restaurant menu or a news article. Blocking too many sites keeps employees from doing their jobs efficiently. Blocking too few is the same as not having a porn filter at all. Porn filters based on restricting IP addresses have that limitation; every site, regardless of content, is blocked if the IP address is blocked.

iPrism porn filters provide unrivaled accuracy in identifying page content and granting fine-grained control over filtered pages in ways that aren’t available through standard porn filters:
  • Context-aware URL database Porn Filter . iPrism uses a database of URLs, iGuard, which classifies individual web pages according to the type of content. iGuard is 100% human-reviewed, so page context, images, and media are always precisely defined in one of 63 categories. URL-based porn filters only look at individual pages, not entire sites; even if one page is blocked, the rest of the site is allowed.
  • Category-based profiles. Filtering is set by using user profiles to set which categories are allowed, monitored, and blocked. This makes it easy to determine what porn filter rules are in place while making it simple to set up even complex profiles.
  • Specialized protocol filtering. iPrism's porn filters can monitor or block instant messaging protocols, file types, and sites with streaming video.
